Known for its prowess as an OE manufacturer of heavy trailers and cranes, as well as for heavy-vehicle service, repair, and parts supply, TRT has now added Certificates of Fitness (COFs) for trucks and trailers to its value-added service offerings.
The company has installed a VTNZ- and NZTA-approved inspection bay at its Hamilton premises on Maui Street, Te Rapa, and has partnered with VTNZ to provide the COF service.
Gavin Halley, general manager of sales, parts, and service, said TRT’s overarching ambition is to offer every type of service a vehicle could need. “Essentially, we want to be a one-stop shop,” he added.
“Our desire has always been to be fully integrated, so a vehicle can arrive here, and we offer a full suite of complementary services for whatever it requires. Providing on-site COFs completes that fully integrated offering,” he said.

The company has upgraded its brake roller testers and hired new staff who have been trained for the job under the leadership of mechanical service manager Darryl Stevenson. He is supported by Shayne Morgan, mechanical service foreman, and Kaye McLaggan, mechanical service advisor.
The certification services Gavin Halley, general manager of sales, parts, and service, says the COF service completes TRT’s fully integrated offering. offered include: in-house complete COF, WOF, and specialised new-vehicle certification; engineering repairs and truck fit-outs; on-site certification of drawbar and drawbeam rebuilds; certified skid plate rebuilds to meet NZTA requirements; certified repair work (chassis, load anchors, etc.); wheelbase alterations; and complete tractor unit and truck fit-outs.
In addition, the company offers comprehensive hydraulic services, including full hydraulic diagnostics and repair, in-house solutions and system design, a hydraulic cylinder press and rebuild facility, as well as PTO, pump, valve, and control rebuild and installation.
The in-house remanufacturing centre provides service exchange trailer steer axles for BPW, SAF, Hendrickson, and ROR; Eaton, ZF, and Allison transmission service exchange and rebuild; and Rockwell and Dana Spicer differential service exchange and rebuild.
Finally, TRT’s engine capabilities include in-frame and full reconditioning services, along with diagnostics and emissions troubleshooting.
“We believe our full list of services goes above and beyond what many of our competitors can provide,” Halley said.
To make the process easier, TRT offers convenient pick-up and drop-off, a courtesy vehicle, and secure overnight parking. The workshop operates Monday to Saturday.
